I love the confidence and the fearless sense of fun that both Marc and Lisa have. I also appreciated their willingness to be completely open and honest with each other despite the fact that they'd just met. The attraction between them was instantaneous but circumstances forced them to hold off on that, at least for a few hours. An impromptu game of Truth or Dare kept them both entertained, as well as most of the other guests at the wedding, until they were free to be alone together. Can what starts out as a one-night stand possibly lead to something more? Read and find out!
I did like the author's writing style, quick, honest and to the point, with an easy sense of humor that I truly enjoyed. Both hero and heroine were real and likable. There were a few mechanical issues that I found a little distracting but I still enjoyed the story!

Ginzburg discovers a middle ground between the empiricist or positivist view of history, and the current postmodern tendency to regard any historical account as just one among an infinity of possible narratives, distinguished or measured not by the standard of truth, but by rhetorical skill. A Mess in Need of an Editor

I should have been put off by the rambling nature of the first chapter in which the author wanders to and fro between Aristotle, Luther and Nietzche with other name dropping thrown in, the connection being Aristotle's Rhetoric, though there's an interesting mention of Thucydides' use of then current customs and of tombstones in his rhetoric to project backwards elements of the past. Chapter 2 concerns the “Donation of Constantine” a document that purported to transfer authority a third of the Roman Empire to the papacy and exposed as a forgery by Lorenzo Valla in the 1400s who used linguistic anachronisms in the text to prove his case. The tone picks up in Chapter 3 with a discussion of the value of using harangues to illustrate historic attitudes and context, the primary example an inflammatory speech against Spanish settlement given by a native Philippine noble Hurao, “recorded” but likely embellished by Le Gobien, a Jesuit.

In the final chapter, Professor Ginzburg returns to form with an analysis of the significance of blanks in Flaubert's Madame Bovary along with commentary by Proust, the sole point being that contemporary novels are a useful tool for contemplating the nature of an era.

The title promised an interesting discussion that wasn't fulfilled. Here and there are a few good points but the whole doesn't work well together. Thankfully the book at 103 pages, at least a third consisting of citations, is short. Not recommended.

To do so, Covey proposes a new reading of the Spanish chronicles, one that focuses on processes, rather than singular events, occurring throughout the region surrounding Cusco, the Inca capital. His focus on long-term regional changes, rather than heroic actions of Inca kings, allows the historical and archaeological evidence to be placed on equal interpretive footing. The result is a narrative of Inca political origins linking Inca statecraft to traditions of Andean power structures, long-term ecological changes, and internal social transformations. By reading the Inca histories in a compatible way, Covey shows that it is possible to construct a unified theory of how the Inca heartland was transformed after AD 1000.
